Moving a Forest : Boardgame V2
PLAYTIME : 90 to 120 minutes (duration may vary depending on participants)
STYLE : Cooperative Board Game
RATING : 12 and over
This board game is an adaptation of the game from the performance “Moving a Forest Theatre Game” for 4-6 players.
1. Background
The year is 2030. Tanju City, having long ignored natural disasters, has been forced to acknowledge the severity of the climate crisis due to increasing protests. Reluctantly, Tanju City has recognized the gravity of the situation and has commissioned the Future Forest Environmental Institute to develop a policy for creating urban forests by 2060. This institute, located in Tanju City, is a privately funded research organization that has traditionally studied trees, plants, insects, animals, and microorganisms. Unlike other ecological research institutes, it focuses on creating ‘forests of the future’ to combat climate change and has long researched urban forest development policies. The institute plans to recruit new researchers to carry out the policy research commissioned by Tanju City.
2. Game Objective
Become a researcher at the Future Forest Environmental Institute and devise policies for Tanju City. To reduce carbon emissions, Tanju City aims to convert 50% of its total area into land where trees can be planted by 2060. The goal is to create a city that coexists with nature in response to climate change. Successfully achieving this will grant you the opportunity to develop forests for Tanju City.
You must decide on policies to implement in 10-year increments. You can choose up to four policies at a time. The most crucial factor to consider is the dissatisfaction index. If the dissatisfaction index reaches 10, the city will cease to function. Implement appropriate campaigns to lower the dissatisfaction index. Decide on policies for the 2030s, 2040s, and 2050s, and redesign Tanju City by transforming its map.
Strive to create a happy Tanju City that lives in harmony with nature.

Moving a Forest : Boardgame V1
PLAYTIME : 90 to 240 minutes (duration may vary depending on participants)
STYLE : Cooperative Board Game
RATING : 12 and over
This artwork is the first installment in the “Moving a Forest” series. It was first shown at ARTIST RESIDENCY CLIMATE CHANGE 2020.
How much can you collaborate for the forest of the future?
The audience will take on the roles of politicians, entrepreneurs, researchers, or activists to complete a mission to relocate a primeval forest threatened by climate change to a safe sanctuary. Each participant will use their unique abilities based on their chosen role to tackle this challenge. To move the trees to the sanctuary, they must navigate through human-inhabited cities, creating paths through lands under investment and development. Since trees communicate through their roots, they must remain connected to one another.
This mission requires collaboration among the participants, and its success or failure will depend on their teamwork.
